The soul of this place
This holy shrine greater than 2000 years old is situated at Devarmalai, 35 KM from Karur, Tamilnadu, India. The temple is said to be renovated during the Pandya and Naicker dynasties. The presiding deities are Sri Kadir Narasinga Perumal and Sri Kamalavalli Thayar, others being Sri Lakshmi Narayanan, Sri Garudalwar, Sri Nammalwar, Sri Ramanujar and Sri Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar who is at the Easinia Moola. Sri Kadir Narasinga Perumal presents with Abhaya and Aghavana Hasthams along with "Tri Nethra", the third eye in the forehead, which is a rare manifestation. Ancient hill temple associated with local sage legends and rural protection folklore in the Karur region. The Almighty Lord Narayana assumed the "Narasimha Avathar" to save his baktha "Prahalatha" from his father "Hiranya" who was vested with great powers, who was bent on destroying his son "Prahalatha" for his unshakable belief and bakthi on Lord Narayana, who at all the times chanted "Om Namo Narayanaya". The almighty flashed from a pillar imminently to save his child with compassion and destroyed Hiranya. This revealed to mankind that the lord is everywhere and anywhere and total submission to the almighty is the only way to get rid of the perils and evils of life. Lord Narashima after his debut presented in various forms, like Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, Sri Yoga Narasimha, Sri Ugra Narasimha and etc., It is said that after Hiranya vatham, when Lord Narasimha descended to the south, at Devarmalai, his ugram was pacified by Devars by performing Thirumanjanam with the holy water taken from Moksha Teertha, created for the purpose by the Devars. This place initially known as Devarmari ("Mari in Tamil means to intercept) now came to be known as "Devarmalai". Another interesting information is that before the Mahabharatha Udham, it is said that Lord Krishna as per his Guru Sandipini's instruction, has done Thirumanjanam with the holy water taken from Moksha teertha, which was created by Devars for Narasimha aradhana. The Lord decides renovation Renovations of ancient temples are a miracle indeed. Due to multi various reasons, temples do get dilapidated, but when the lord decides they spring up to glory. Two incidence make it clear here. 1) Lord Narasimha has appeared in the dream of a doctor in Karur, about 5 years back showing up his position. In the dark Karuvarai of a temple he along with his family members witnessed the Lord with his left eye distorted, in the light of the arathi by an old archaker. The Doctor was astonished to see the same vigraha with a distorted silver kanmalar of his left eye in the same situation, when he happened to visit the temple for the first time after a week. He has never visited the temple before. He did think that this temple should be renovated. He is an active member at work now. 2) Another Incident did start the process. About 3 years back, when one devotee went in search of this temple, one Garuda has guided him to the temple. With the publication of this incidence in "Kumudam Jothidam", the process of renovation was planned under the able guidance of Thiru A.M.R.
