The soul of this place

Built originally by the Pallavas in the 8th century; one of the oldest standing structures in Chennai and a premier Divya Desam. Unique Aspects of the Presiding DeityThe Majestic Moustache: This is one of the exceptionally rare Vishnu shrines where the main deity is sported with a prominent moustache, symbolizing his heroic role as a warrior-charioteer.No Primary Weapons: Because Lord Krishna vowed not to wield weapons during the Kurukshetra war, his 9-foot-tall idol holds only the Panchajanya conch (shanka) in his right hand, without his signature Sudarshana Chakra discus.Battle Scars: The face of the deity features unique markings, traditionally believed to represent the scars from arrows shot by Bhishma while Krishna shielded Arjuna on the battlefield. The Family Sanctum: Unusually for a main sanctum, Lord Venkatakrishna stands alongside his entire family (Panchaveeras), including his consort Rukmini, elder brother Balarama, son Pradyumna, grandson Aniruddha, and cousin Satyaki.
