How to reach

~150 km from Bengaluru; adjacent to Nambinarayana and Parthasarathy temples in Thondanur. The Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple in Thondanur (Kere Thonnur) is located in the Pandavapura taluk of the Mandya district in Karnataka, India. It sits about 35 km north of Mysore and 140 km from Bangalore. You can reach it via Pandavapura, which is the nearest railway station, or by road via the Srirangapatna-Pandavapura route.Travel OptionsBy Train: Take a train to Pandavapura Railway Station, which lies on the Bangalore-Mysore line. From the station, hire an auto-rickshaw or local taxi for the remaining 15–20 km drive to Thondanur village.By Car / Taxi: From Mysore (approx. 1-hour drive), drive via Srirangapatna and Pandavapura. From Bangalore (approx. 3-hour drive), take the Bangalore-Mysore highway, head towards Pandavapura or take a detour past Mandya/Jakkanahalli cross toward Tonnur Lake.Local Transport: Regular KSRTC buses and local jeeps operate from Mandya and Pandavapura toward Thondanur.

Sankalpa

A yatra begins as intention, not as a booking. Name why you go — then travel light around that vow.

State your sankalpa simply: whose wellbeing, which form of the Lord, which kshetra first.
Keep one short daily practice on the road — even 11 mantras at dawn keeps the mala from becoming tourism.
If elders or children travel with you, include their comfort in the vow; seva includes the party you bring.
Offer the route itself: each stop is a bead, not a checklist to finish faster.

Trek & road

Packing for darshan

Hill kshetras (Ahobilam, Sholinghur, Devarayanadurga) punish heavy bags. Pack for heat, stone, and queue — not for camping fashion.

Footwear you can remove often; socks for hot stone; a light scarf or angavastram for shrine precincts.
Water, ORS or lemon salt, torch for pre-dawn climbs, basic blister care.
Modest spare clothes; rain shell in monsoon months; small cloth bag for phones before sanctum rules.
Cash for prasadam / local jeeps; print or offline map for weak-signal hills; ID for matha lodging where needed.
For Nava Narasimha walks: start early, one day for Upper, do not force all nine if the body asks rest.

Matha & shrine

Matha etiquette

You are a guest in a living parampara. Silence, dress, and queue discipline are part of darshan.

Dress modestly; shoulders and knees covered; remove footwear where marked; keep voices low near garbha griha.
Follow priest and volunteer instructions — do not negotiate photography inside restricted spaces.
In Ahobila Matha and other Srivaishnava spaces, ask before sitting in seva lines; accept prasadam with both hands.
Do not block processions or climb for a better photo; leave litter nothing but footprints on hill paths.
If staying in matha rooms: quiet after night arati, no alcohol/meat, tip only where custom allows.

This is devotee preparation, not a commercial tour brief. Confirm timings, trek status, and lodging with the kshetra before you go.
